Understanding of basic tools and map tools
Author: Anna Dowling
This wiki entry will demonstrate some of the basic tools and map tools available to the end user in the Noc Portal, which have not been covered in other areas of the wiki.
The first area to focus on is the maps functionality. There are a number of display methods available to the user for navigating the map. These are as follows:
Satellite versus Terrain Map Display
The user has the ability to change the display of the map by clicking Map or Satellite in the left hand corner of the map as demonstrated below:
Map Legend for determining marker and fiber colours
The mappings to determine marker and fiber types displayed on the map can found using the legend button on the bottom panel of the main Noc Portal display page:
Legend Mappings
Search and Refresh Options
In the top right hand corner of the main display page, there are a number of search options available to the user:
Show Tickets/Alarms
The Show Tickets/Alarms tab has been discussed in previous wiki entries for the Noc Portal: Walkthrough of a busy market - Alarming.
Search
The search cluster data dialogue pops up when Search is clicked and has options for searching by ticket id, Hub and node.
Refresh Data
This manually refreshes alarming information on the map.
The user can also set a refresh interval on their profile through the manage account tab. This tab also provides the user with a way to change their password and default map style:
Fly to Address
Outage Information
In the event of an outage updates can be posted in relation to that market in the green box in the left hand corner of the screen. This outage information is retrieved from the DAS NOC form and can also be updated manually.
Filter Visible Hubs
The filter visible hubs feature displays a pop up box which allows the user to display specific hubs by selecting their corresponding checkbox.
Self-Assessment:
- Set the refresh interval on the user account to be 10 minutes.
- Change the default map type to be terrain.
- Using the legend determine what colour the warning marker would be?
- Using the legend determine what colour UG Fiber would display as?
- Find a network element with its address details id populated. Using this id, find its corresponding address_details entry. Using this address, successfully fly to the adddress on the map.
- Show how you would filter to a specific hub on the map.
- Search for a specific ticket id on the map.
- Filter to a specific node on the map.
