Managing RDS Maintenances

Author: Michelle McCausland

Introduction

This page was created to provide a resource which documents the process involved in managing an RDS maintenance with AWS.

An example of this request was carried out as part of SUPPORT-455

AWS Emails

When an RDS maintenance window is approaching, we will be notified by ec2@errigal.com.

The email will contain something similar to the following:

We are contacting you to inform you that one or more of your Amazon RDS DB instances is scheduled to receive system upgrades
during your maintenance window between July 19 2:00 PM PDT to July 26 2:00 PM PDT.

What is required?

An internal support ticket should be created to:

  1. Investigate the affected resource and to schedule the maintenance window for a suitable time where little/no activity is taking place on the system.
  2. To monitor this maintenance when it is taking place.
  3. To ensure all functionality is restored following the maintenance.
