 +====== Introduction to Errigal's Application Suite ======
 +
 +Author: Michelle
 +
 +===== Introduction =====
 +
 +The Errigal IDMS platform is made up of a number of applications that each carry out specific tasks and perform different functions.
 +
 +You may have seen some of this from a very high level on the [[https://www.errigal.com/platform/| Platform section of the Errigal.com website]].
 +
 +From there you may have seen the core applications such as the Ticketer, SNMP Manager, Reporting Manager etc. With that said there are additional applications and sub-sections of these applications that are treated as their own feature, tool etc.
 +
 +This section will go through each of these "core applications" in a little more detail to get you up to speed on their functionality.
 +
 +Note: Internal training videos related to these applications can be found on the [[https://training.errigal.com/Support/| Training Environment]]
 +
 +----
 +
 +===== SNMP Manager =====
 +
 +The SNMP Manager is essentially the hub for a lot of core functionality of the Errigal IDMS platform.
 +
 +At its core, the SNMP Manager application receives SNMP Trap alarms and can perform auto-discovery on a network to track the state of the devices in the network.
 +
 +Specialized rules are run on the trap alarms to standardize their format and apply certain timers for subsequent actions to be taken on the alarm in the application.
 +
 +The SNMP Manager also stores and manages the knowledgebase of Network Elements (devices), Contacts and Mapping details which are used by other tools in the IDMS Suite.
 +
 +The Node Monitor is a tool in the SNMP manager which provides a visual interface for these traps and their data. With that being said, more emphasis has been put on the EMS application as the preferable way to access this information.
 +
 +You can find more detail on the SNMP Manager in this section of the Wiki: [[onboarding:snmpmanager:start|SNMP Manager]].
 +
 +----
 +
 +===== EMS =====
 +
 +The EMS (Element Management System) is an application that is used to manage network elements or devices.
 +
 +Using the EMS, you can manage elements and their alarms without the need to access an element directly by logging into its device interface.
 +
 +This is a very high level description of what the EMS does but there are a lot of features and tools that allow for this element management including:
 +
 +  * **Topology Discovery** - The ability to discover devices so they appear in the EMS correctly with the proper hierarchy
 +  * **Alarm Discovery** - The ability to discover the alarms that are present on an element/device
 +  * **Config & Performance Discovery** - The ability to integrate the performance and configuration parameters associated with devices into the EMS for management of these parameters.
 +  * **Neutral Host Management** - The ability to allow multiple carriers on a shared system to manage their devices
 +
 +
 +You can find more detail on the EMS in this section of the Wiki: [[onboarding:ems:start|EMS]].
 +
 +----
 +
 +===== Ticketer =====
 +
 +The Ticketer application, as you might imagine is a ticket management platform.
 +
 +Tickets are manually generated or generated from traps received from the SNMP Manager and are moved through custom workflows to a resolution.
 +
 +Custom workflows, forms, and emails are designed with each customer in mind to allow for an efficient flow of progress through to resolution.
 +
 +As we just mentioned the Ticketer also features an email notification feature. This allows for an email notification to be sent to remind users to carry out work or when an item requires a follow up for example.
 +
 +You can find more detail on the Ticketer in this section of the Wiki: [[onboarding:ticketer:start|Ticketer]].
 +
 +----
 +
 +===== Noc Portal =====
 +
 +The Noc Portal provides a simplified interface to view the network. It provides sanitized information for the Carriers to see the status of their network and ticket summaries for each visible alarm.
 +
 +It also provides an emergency platform for large scale outages where outage information is posted and updated, and an emergency condition evolves, e.g. fiber cut, severe storm etc.
 +
 +The platform provides a fiber administration console that allows administrators to import and archive fiber maps. These fiber displays are then shown to users with the correct permissions.
 +
 +You can find more detail on the Noc Portal in this section of the Wiki: [[onboarding:nocportal:start|NOC Portal]].
 +
 +
 +----
 +
 +===== Reporting Manager =====
 +
 +The reporting manager is our reporting platform that is used to generate and send custom reports in the form of charts, tables and graphs.
 +
 +Custom reports are developed by the operations team that are bespoke to each customer to allow for accurate and informative reports that assist users in a wide variety of tasks.
 +
 +Some of these reports can also be seen integrated into the EMS which allows for easy access of this report data.
 +
 +You can find more detail on the Reporting Manager in this section of the Wiki: [[onboarding:reportingmanager:start|Reporting Manager]].
